Elsie Ellen Klaverweiden passed from this earth to eternal life on Thursday December 28, 2006, at her home located in Parsonburg, Maryland where she resided with her daughter, Jean Travis. Elsie Klaverweiden was born on February 18, 1916 in West Post Office, Maryland. She was the daughter of Irvin and Nora Johnson.
She was the wife of James T. Klaverweiden for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; eldest son, James E. Klaverweiden; three grandchildren, Tina Marie Sherrill, Shawn and Shane Betts; and siblings, Sidney Johnson, Hubert Johnson, Thelma Dykes, Hazel Lewis, Nellie Nock, Hattie Gullette, and Eunice Johnson.
She is survived by nine children: daughter and son-in-law Ellen and Elmo Peek of Salisbury, daughter-in-law Mary Francis Klaverweiden of Delmar, Delaware, son and daughter-in-law Paul and Joyce Klaverweiden of Parsonsburg, son and daughter-in-law Tommy and Kay Klaverweiden of Salisbury, daughter and son-in-law, daughter Mae and sone-in-law Russell Sherrill of Hebron; daughter Esther Ryan of Richland Center, Wisconsin, daughter and son-in-law Jean and Buddy Travis of Parsonsburg, daughter Peggy Klaverweiden of Delmar, son and daughter-in-law Tim and Connie Klaverweiden of Delmar, and son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Diane Klaverweiden of Hampstead. In addition, she is survived by four sisters: Isabell Wilkerson of Salisbury, Elizabeth Hearn of Salisbury, Magdalene Shores of Salisbury, and Debbie Core of Delmar. She is also survived by a loving legacy of 38 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Eight grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Gary Peek, Jay Klaverweiden, Tommy Klaverweiden, Jr., Leslie Sherrill, Doug Travis, David Jones, Jr., Jordan and Justin Klaverweiden.
She personified a lifelong devotion to her family and her faith. Elsie's childhood home was the site of the first Church of God in Maryland. Elsie was born again in 1921 at the age of 5 and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost in 1931. Throughout her life, she was a constant example of the Christian life and was associated with various churches including, the Church of God, the Church of God of Prophecy, the Church of God House of Prayer, St. Luke's Pentecostal Mission, the Evangelical Bible Church, Pittsville Full Gospel Church, and the Pentecostal Church of Hampstead.
